Barbecued Spicy Chicken

  1. Cook onion and garlic in oil until tender, but not brown.
  2. Stir in remaining ingredients, except chicken.
  3. Simmer, covered, about 1/2 hour; stir occasionally.
  4. Season chicken with salt and pepper. Place, bone side down, over medium-hot coals.
  5. Grill 25 minutes. Turn skin side down; grill 20 minutes more.
  6. Brush barbecue sauce over chicken.
  7. Continue grilling until tender, 10 to 15 minutes, turning frequently and basting with sauce.
  8. Makes 8 servings.
