Apple Squares
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 c. brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 c. sifted all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp. cloves
- 1 c. quick cooking oatmeal
- 1 1/2 c. diced, peeled apples
- 3/4 c. coarsely chopped nuts
- 3/4 c. raisins
- confectioners sugar
- In a large bowl, cream the shortening, brown sugar and eggs until light and fluffy.
- Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and spices.
- Add to creamed mixture.
- Blend well. Stir in oatmeal, apples, nuts and raisins.
- Spread in greased 9 x 13 x 2-inch pan.
- Bake at 375u0b0 for 20 to 25 minutes.
- Cool in pan. Cut in squares.
- Sprinkle with confectioners sugar.
- Makes 2 dozen.
