Ghost-Like Treats
- 1 cup shortening
- 2 1/2 cups sugar
- 3 eggs, beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 teaspoons buttermilk
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- Garnish: sanding sugar, small jellybeans
- Powdered Sugar Frosting:
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons cream cheese, softened
- 1 to 2 T. milk
- In a large bowl, blend together shortening and sugar. Add remaining ingredients; beat until dough is sticky. Spoon onto wax paper; wrap and refrigerate for several hours to overnight. Roll out dough 1/2-inch thick on a floured surface. Cut out shapes with floured cookie cutters; transfer to greased baking sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes, until edges are golden. Cool before frosting. Frost with Powdered Sugar Frosting. Sprinkle with sugar. Add jellybeans for eyes and mouth.
