Savory Or Sweet Scones
- 3 c. flour
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 Tbsp. butter
- milk to mix
- grated cheese (for savory)
- 1/2 c. dried fruit like raisins or apricots (for sweet)
- 2 Tbsp. sugar (for sweet)
- 4 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- Place flour, salt and baking powder in a bowl.
- Add sugar if making sweet scones.
- Rub (mix) butter into dry ingredients.
- Add cheese for savory or fruit for sweet.
- Slowly add milk, a little at a time, and mix with a knife to start.
- Use clean hands to finish mixing.
- Mixture should not crumble when picked up or be too sticky.
- Roll on a floured board.
- Cut into approximately 12 scones 1-inch high.
- Bake at 375u0b0 for 15 to 20 minutes, or until golden. Serve hot or cold.
- Butter and serve savory scones for lunch and sweet scones for morning or afternoon tea.
- May also add chopped bacon or onion for savory scones.
