Turkey French Bread Pizzas
- Cooking spray
- 1 1/2 pounds ground turkey breast
- 1 1/2 cups sliced mushrooms
- 3/4 cup chopped onion (about 1 medium)
- 1 garlic clove, crushed
- 1 (15-ounce) can pizza sauce
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 2 (8-ounce) loaves French bread
- 1 1/2 cups (6 ounces) shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese
- Preheat broiler.
- Coat a large nonstick skillet with cooking spray; place over medium-high heat until hot. Add turkey and next 3 ingredients. Cook until turkey is browned, stirring until it crumbles. Stir in pizza sauce and salt; cook until thoroughly heated.
- Cut each loaf in half horizontally; cut each horizontal piece in half crosswise. Place on an ungreased baking sheet, cut sides up. Broil 1 minute or until lightly toasted. Spoon turkey mixture over French bread pieces; sprinkle with cheese. Broil until cheese melts.
- Tip: Ground turkey breast is the leanest form of ground turkey (about 3 percent fat) and is white meat only with no skin. Regular ground turkey is made from white and dark meat with some skin and is about 10 percent fat. Frozen ground turkey is usually all dark meat with skin, and the fat content is similar to that of ground sirloin.
