Basic White Bread

  1. Place shortening, sugar and salt in mixing bowl.
  2. Add hot milk and stir to soften shortening.
  3. Let cool.
  4. Beat in eggs.
  5. Soften yeast in the warm water; add to shortening mixture.
  6. Add 4 cups of flour.
  7. Beat smooth.
  8. Add enough of rest of flour to make soft dough; knead 8 to 10 minutes.
  9. Place in a greased bowl.
  10. Turn over once so top of dough is greased.
  11. Cover with cloth and let rise until double (approximately 1 1/4 hours).
  12. Punch down and let rest 10 minutes.
  13. Shape into loaves and place into greased pans.
  14. Let rise again (about 1 hour).
  15. Bake at 400u0b0 for 25 or 30 minutes. Remove from pans immediately and let cool.
