Bowties With Italian Sausage In A Cream Basil Sauce
- 1 package (19 ounces) Johnsonville(R) Fresh Sweet Sausage Links, casings removed
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 cups bowtie pasta
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1/2 cup diced onion
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 1/2 cups chopped fresh tomatoes or 1 can (28 ounces) whole plum tomatoes, drained and coarsely chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups half-and-half cream
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 cup chopped fresh basil
- In a large skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Add sausage, crumble and cook until no longer pink and lightly browned. Add pepper flakes, onion and garlic. Saute until tender. Meanwhile, prepare pasta according to package directions. Stir tomatoes and salt into sausage mixture, continue to cook for 3 minutes. Reduce heat to simmer, add cream and Parmesan cheese. Continue to simmer until cheese melts and mixture thickens. In a large bowl combine sauce with hot pasta and basil. Toss gently to coat. Serve.
