Savory Potato Gratin
- 4 to 5 medium potatoes, peeled and sliced
- 3 to 4 medium onions, peeled and sliced
- 2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
- 4 cloves garlic, minced or pressed
- 1 Tbsp. salt
- dash of black pepper
- dash of nutmeg
- 1 tsp. dried thyme leaves
- 3 Tbsp. chopped parsley
- 1/2 c. whipping cream
- paprika (optional)
- Saute onions in butter in a large skillet until soft and transparent.
- In a shallow baking dish, arrange in layers sliced potatoes and onions, sprinkling with garlic and seasonings in between layers for best flavoring.
- Bake at 350u0b0 for about 40 minutes.
- Add whipping cream all over top.
- Sprinkle with paprika if used.
- Increase oven to 400u0b0 and bake for another 10 to 20 minutes until potatoes are soft and fork tender and gratin slightly browned on top.
