Apple Bread

  1. Heat oven to 350u0b0.
  2. Grease and flour loaf pan, 9 x 5 x 3-inches.
  3. Mix 1 cup sugar, the shortening, eggs and vanilla. Stir in flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt until smooth. Stir in apples and nuts.
  4. Spread in pan.
  5. Mix 1 teaspoon sugar and the cinnamon.
  6. Sprinkle over batter.
  7. Bake until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean, 50 to 60 minutes.
  8. Immediately remove from pan; cool bread completely before slicing.
  9. Store tightly covered.
  10. Makes 1 loaf.
