Irish Soda Bread

  1. Preheat oven to 400u0b0.
  2. Sift flour with next 4 ingredients. Cut in butter with 2 knives or pastry blender, until mixture resembles coarse corn meal.
  3. Stir in raisins.
  4. Mix vinegar and milk.
  5. Make a well in center of flour mixture.
  6. Add liquid all at once.
  7. Stir with a fork until dry ingredients are moistened.
  8. Turn out onto a lightly floured board.
  9. Knead gently 8 to 10 times. Shape into a ball.
  10. Place in a greased 8-inch pie plate.
  11. Make an "X" on top with a knife and brush with a little milk for glaze. Bake at 400u0b0 for 15 minutes.
  12. Lower temperature to 375u0b0 and bake 30 minutes.
