Not Your Dads Manhattan

- 2 ounces Rye Whiskey
- .5 ounces Bourbon soaked cherry juice
- 1 ounce Sweet Vermouth
- 2 ounces Anguish Bitters
- Bourbon Cherries
- 1 pound cherries, pitted and stems removed
- .5 cups cups of water
- .5 cups cups of honey
- 1 cup cup of bourbon
- 1 piece cinnamon stick
- 1 piece strip of orange peel
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar
- 1 pinch nutmeg
- Stir ingredients over ice until chilled, about 30 seconds.
- Strain over 2 cubes of ice into a chilled coupe glass.
- Garnish with bourbon soaked cherry.
- In a saucepan over medium-high heat, whisk together the water, apple cider vinegar, vanilla extract and honey until combined.
- Add in the cinnamon strip and orange peel. Continue heating, stirring occasionally, until the mixture reaches a simmer.
- Reduce heat to medium-low, and continue to simmer for another 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat, discard the cinnamon stick and orange peel. Slowly add the bourbon to the pan, stir to combine.
- Pour the bourbon mixture over the cherries in jars, then let the mixture cool completely to room temperature.
- Secure the lids on the mason jars, give them a shake, and refrigerate for at least 3 days before using. The recipe should last for up to 2 months.
