Old-Fashioned White Bread
- 2 1/4 c. milk
- 3 Tbsp. butter
- 5 to 6 c. flour
- 2 pkg. active dry yeast
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 2 tsp. salt
- Heat milk and butter to 120u0b0 (or lukewarm).
- Add sugar and salt. Stir until dissolved.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and yeast, then the warmed liquids and mix well (only add about 1/2 of the flour at this time).
- Gradually add remaining flour to form a stiff dough.
- Knead dough on well floured surface until smooth and satiny (3 to 5 minutes).
- Place into buttered bowl and allow to rise in a warm place until double in size (covered). Punch down and place on floured surface.
- Knead for 2 minutes
- and divide dough into equal parts and shape accordingly (rolls, bread, etc.).
- Place into buttered pans and allow dough to rise until double in size.
- Bake at 350u0b0 until brown.
- Butter top while warm. Makes 2 loaves or 24 rolls. Enjoy!
