Old-Fashioned White Bread

  1. Heat milk and butter to 120u0b0 (or lukewarm).
  2. Add sugar and salt. Stir until dissolved.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and yeast, then the warmed liquids and mix well (only add about 1/2 of the flour at this time).
  4. Gradually add remaining flour to form a stiff dough.
  5. Knead dough on well floured surface until smooth and satiny (3 to 5 minutes).
  6. Place into buttered bowl and allow to rise in a warm place until double in size (covered). Punch down and place on floured surface.
  7. Knead for 2 minutes
  8. and divide dough into equal parts and shape accordingly (rolls, bread, etc.).
  9. Place into buttered pans and allow dough to rise until double in size.
  10. Bake at 350u0b0 until brown.
  11. Butter top while warm. Makes 2 loaves or 24 rolls. Enjoy!
