Abbey'S Christmas Sugar Cookies
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 2/3 c. soft shortening
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 2 eggs
- 4 tsp. milk
- 4 c. sifted all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. double-acting baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- Cream sugar and shortening.
- Beat eggs and vanilla extract, if desired, into mixture.
- Sift flour, baking powder and salt together; add to sugar mixture alternately with milk.
- Roll dough about 1/4-inch thick on well-floured board.
- (This dough works better if you refrigerate it for 2 to 3 hours.)
- If you want, add food coloring and then cut into Christmas trees, stars, wreaths or fancy shapes using well-floured cutters.
- Place cookies on greased cookie sheets.
- Bake at 350u0b0 for 12 to 14 minutes or until edges are lightly browned.
