Abbey'S Christmas Sugar Cookies

  1. Cream sugar and shortening.
  2. Beat eggs and vanilla extract, if desired, into mixture.
  3. Sift flour, baking powder and salt together; add to sugar mixture alternately with milk.
  4. Roll dough about 1/4-inch thick on well-floured board.
  5. (This dough works better if you refrigerate it for 2 to 3 hours.)
  6. If you want, add food coloring and then cut into Christmas trees, stars, wreaths or fancy shapes using well-floured cutters.
  7. Place cookies on greased cookie sheets.
  8. Bake at 350u0b0 for 12 to 14 minutes or until edges are lightly browned.
