Not Your Grandmother'S Cabbage Roll Soup

  1. In a large Dutch oven, saute onions and garlic over medium heat in olive oil until soft. Add salt and pepper. Add shredded cabbage and lightly saute until soft. Add tomatoes with their liquid, tomato sauce, brown sugar, lemon juice, cranberries and 5 cups of water. Stir to blend.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix all meatball ingredients. Form cocktail size meatballs from mixture and add to liquid. Bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat to low, and cook for 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
