Nana'S Christmas Bread

  1. Heat milk almost to boiling.
  2. Stir in sugar, butter and salt. Let cool to lukewarm.
  3. Add yeast mixture and stir in 3 cups of flour.
  4. Cover and let rise for 1 hour.
  5. Add cardamon and eggs to mixture.
  6. Mix candied fruit and raisins with 1/4 cup flour and add to dough.
  7. Add just enough flour to make soft dough that's not sticky (about 1 cup).
  8. Knead on well floured board, about 6 minutes.
  9. Cover and let rise until light, about 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 450u0b0.
  10. Grease two 9 x 5-inch loaf pans.
  11. Punch down dough and divide in half and place in loaf pans.
  12. Let rise until double in size.
  13. Bake 10 minutes.
  14. Reduce heat to 325u0b0 and bake an additional 50 minutes or until brown.
  15. Combine powdered sugar and milk; mix well and drizzle over cooled bread.
