Onion Blossom

  1. Peel onion, leaving root end intact.
  2. Cut onion vertically into quarters, cutting to within 1/2-inch of rooted end.
  3. Cut each quarter vertically into thirds.
  4. Place onion in boiling water 1 minute; remove and place in ice water 5 minutes.
  5. Loosen petals if necessary.
  6. Drain onion, cut side down.
  7. Place flour into a zip-top plastic bag.
  8. Add onion, tossing to coat.
  9. Chill 1 hour.
  10. Pour oil to depth of 3 inches into an electric fryer or heavy saucepan and heat to 375u0b0.
  11. Fry onions 5 to 7 minutes or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  12. Sprinkle with salt, if desired.
  13. Serve onions with dark honey mustard or Ranch style salad dressing.
