French Bread Puff
- 1 loaf (1 lb.) French bread (not sliced)
- 1/2 c. margarine (soft)
- 2 Tbsp. finely chopped onions or chives
- 1/4 tsp. garlic powder
- 2 eggs, separated
- 1/2 c. shredded cheese (Mozzarella, Velveeta or American)
- Heat oven to 350u0b0.
- Cut
- breadtt 1-inch intervals but not in slices.
- Mix margarine, garlic powder and onion.
- Spoon mixture between slices andtpreadtvenly.
- Wrap loaf in foil and place on ungreased
- baking
- sheet.
- Heattor
- 15 minutes. While bread is heating,
- beat
- egg
- whites until stiff.
- Separately beat egg yolks until
- thick.
- Fold egg yolks and cheese into egg whites. When loaf is ready, fold back foil to make a skirt.
- Spoon egg mixture
- over
- loaf.
- Baketntil topping is golden brown (about 4 minutes).
