Rhubarb Rumble

  1. Bring 1 cup water to a boil.
  2. Add rhubarb and sugar and let sit until sugar has dissolved.
  3. Once sugar has dissolved, turn off the heat, cover, and let sit until cool.
  4. Add basil leaves, gin, and lemon/lime juice to the bottom of a cocktail shaker. Muddle.
  5. Add vinegar, rhubarb syrup, and ice. Shake well, until shaker has frosted.
  6. Strain and pour into a rocks glass, with one large ice cube (if you don't have a fancy ice cube tray, try making some nice large ones in a muffin tin).
  7. Garnish with 1 to 2 basil leaves.
  8. Top with grapefruit juice or soda, then give the whole drink a stir.
  9. Finish with three dashes of rhubarb bitters (I recommend Fee Brothers). Lemon or aromatic bitters would do in a pinch.
  10. Enjoy!
