Sweet-Sour Meatballs
- 2 lb. lean ground meat
- 1 pkg. onion soup mix (Lipton)
- 1 c. cracker crumbs
- 3 beaten eggs
- 1 can whole cranberry sauce (16 oz.)
- 1 can sauerkraut (16 oz.), drained
- 1 c. brown sugar
- 1/4 c. barbecue sauce
- 2 lb. lean beef chuck or round steak or venison
- 1 Tbsp. browning sauce
- 1/4 c. dry Cream of Rice cereal
- 4 carrots (1 1/2-inch chunks)
- 2 c. thinly sliced onions
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1/2 to 1 tsp. dried marjoram, crushed
- 1/2 to 1 tsp. dried thyme, crushed
- 1 jar button mushrooms, undrained
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
- 1 c. dry red wine or beef broth
- noodles
- Cook noodles.
- In Dutch oven or large casserole, toss meat with browning sauce.
- Mix in cereal.
- Add all the remaining ingredients, except noodles.
- Cover and bake at 325u0b0 for 2 to 2 1/2 hours or until the meat and vegetables are tender
- Serves with noodles.
- Yields 8 servings.
