Grandma'S Crumb Cake
- 1 lb. box raisins
- 1 1/2 c. brown sugar
- 1 c. white sugar
- 1 c. Crisco
- 2 c. buttermilk
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 4 c. flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. nutmeg
- Cook box of raisins until plump.
- Use just enough water to almost cover the raisins in a small pan.
- Let cool.
- Rub together brown sugar, white sugar and Crisco (save out about 1 cup of mixture for topping).
- Beat until foamy 2 cups buttermilk (or sour milk) with 2 teaspoons of baking soda.
- Add flour, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg (and others if desired).
- Add sugar mixture to flour with milk.
- Stir well.
- Add raisins.
- Mix well.
- Pour into 1 large and 1 small greased and floured pans.
- Add sugar topping. Bake at 350u0b0 for 30 to 40 minutes.
