Apple Streusel Ladder Loaf

  1. Divide bread dough in half.
  2. On lightly floured surface, roll each half into an 8-inch square.
  3. Spread each square with 1 tablespoon of butter.
  4. In a bowl, combine brown sugar, flour and cinnamon.
  5. Add apples.
  6. Toss to coat.
  7. Spread half of this mixture down the center of each square.
  8. Cutting from the right edge towards the filling, make 2 1/2-inch long cuts in the dough at 1-inch intervals.
  9. Repeat from the left edge.
  10. Fold strips alternately over filling.
  11. Fold under ends.
  12. Place loaves on a greased 15 x 10 x 1-inch baking pan.
  13. Brush with milk.
  14. Combine flour and sugar, cut butter into flour and sugar until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  15. Sprinkle half the crumb mixture over each loaf.
  16. Top with almonds.
  17. Cover and let rise until nearly double (45 to 60 minutes).
  18. Bake at 350u0b0 for 30 minutes or until golden. Serve warm.
  19. Makes 2 loaves.
