Wine Poached Pears
- 2 pears
- 11/2 cup red wine
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
- 2 clove buds
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon grated ginger
- Peel the pears but leave the stem, cut a thin slice from the bottom of each pear to make them stand better. Pour wine and orange juice into a pot, add sugar, orange zest and spices. Simmer at low heat until sugar dissolves.
- Carefully place the pears into the pot, bring to boil, reduce the heat and simmer with closed lid for 30 to 40 minutes. To make sure the pears are well-soaked, leave them to cool in the liquid.
- Take the pears out, and boil the liquid until it turns syrupy. Pour the syrup over the pears and serve with a scoop of ice cream or mascarpone.
- And surely we cannot fail to mention a serving platter for the ready dish. WILMAX suggests you use a triangular WL-996103 plate to serve this wonderful dessert. Bon appetit!
