Tom'S Plain Tomato Sauce
- 2 large cans crushed tomatoes
- 2 large cans pear shaped Italian peeled tomatoes
- 1 onion
- 1 1/2 tsp. basil
- 1/2 tsp. oregano
- 3 cloves garlic
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- salt and pepper
- olive oil
- butter or margarine
- In a pot, add 1 onion finely chopped to hot oil with a dash of butter until the onion turns yellow and soft.
- Add 4 cans of tomatoes (2 crushed, 2 pear shaped) and a small amount of water, 1/2 cup or so.
- Mash tomatoes with masher and add 1 1/2 teaspoons of basil and 1/2 teaspoon oregano to pot.
- Bring to slight boil and simmer.
- Chop up 3 cloves of garlic and add to sauce.
- Add 1 tablespoon sugar and salt and pepper to taste.
- Add a little more olive oil and cook on low for 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
- Add more sugar if needed.
