Gypsy Schnitzel(Zigeunerschnitzel)

  1. Sprinkle steaks with salt and pepper; dip into egg mixture and bread crumbs.
  2. Fry in shortening until brown on both sides. Remove pork chops or pork steaks.
  3. Add onion and peppers to drippings and saute a couple of minutes.
  4. Add mushrooms, water and the bouillon cube; bring to a boil.
  5. Make a paste with the cornstarch and a tablespoon of cold water.
  6. Pour into the sauce and cook, stirring constantly, until thickened.
  7. Season with salt, paprika and chili powder to taste.
  8. Add pork chops or pork steaks. Simmer 5 to 10 minutes and serve.
  9. Serves 4.
