Friendship Fruitcake

  1. Crush vanilla wafers into fine crumbs.
  2. In a very large container, mix sugar, salt, spices and crumbs.
  3. Beat eggs and milk and add to the dry mixture.
  4. Add fruits and nuts, mixing well. Spoon into a tube pan completely lined with aluminum foil and greased.
  5. Decorate the top with whole candied pineapple slices and candied cherries.
  6. Cover with foil tightly and bake in 225u0b0 oven for 2 1/2 hours.
  7. Remove foil from the top for the last 30 minutes of baking.
  8. Cool completely in the pan.
  9. Remove from pan, wrap in foil and store in the refrigerator.
  10. This cake improves with age so it is best to make it in September or October.
