Autumn Apple Salad

  1. Combine undrained crushed pineapple and sugar in a large saucepan.
  2. Bring to boil; boil gently for 3 minutes, stirring often.
  3. Add gelatin and stir till dissolved.
  4. Add the cream cheese and stir till mixture is thoroughly combined.
  5. Remove from heat; cool slightly.
  6. Cover and refrigerate salad for 1 hour.
  7. Fold in apples, nuts and celery.
  8. Gently fold in dessert topping.
  9. Pour into a 2-quart square baking dish.
  10. Cover and chill several hours or until firm.
  11. Garnish with apple slices and sprinkle salad with additional chopped nuts.
