Speedy Spaghetti Sauce
- 2 Tbsp. shortening
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 (1 1/2 oz.) envelope onion soup mix
- 1 1/2 c. water
- 1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste
- 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. pepper
- 1 1/2 tsp. sugar
- 1 tsp. oregano or basil
- grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
- Heat shortening in skillet over medium flame (300u0b0 if using burner-with-a-brain).
- Add beef and garlic and fry, stirring until beef is well browned.
- Add remaining ingredients and bring to a boil.
- Lower flame (200u0b0 on burner-with-a-brain).
- Cover skillet and simmer gently for 30 minutes.
- Serve over cooked spaghetti or macaroni.
- Top generously with grated Parmesan cheese, if desired. Yield:
- 4 servings.
