Apple-Cranberry Salad

  1. For dressing, in a screw top jar, combine oil, cider or juice, vinegar, cinnamon and cloves.
  2. Cover and shake well to mix.
  3. Chill until needed.
  4. If using cranberries, toss berries with 2 tablespoons of the sugar; let stand for 15 minutes.
  5. Toss with remaining 1 tablespoon sugar for a frosted look.
  6. For grapes, which are sweeter, omit the sugar.
  7. Arrange greens on 4 salad plates.
  8. Top with apple slices.
  9. Shake dressing; pour over salads. Top with cranberries or grapes.
  10. Makes 4 to 6 side dish servings.
