Orange Wine - Vin À L'Orange
- 5 oranges, washed and cut in slices with skin
- 1 lemon, washed and sliced
- 2 bottles of red Cote du Rhone wine
- 1 1/4 cups Eau de Vie
- 1 vanilla pod split and seeds removed
- 2 pieces of mace
- 6 cups brown sugar
- 3 cloves
- Wash the oranges and the lemons. Cut the lemons in slices and the oranges in small pieces (with skin).
- In a big container add the oranges, lemons, cinnamon, mace, the vanilla pod open and and seeds scraped.
- Warm up the wine and add the sugar. Stir to dissolve but don't let the wine boil. Add the Eau de Vie, stir and allow to infuse for 30 days in a dark place.
- Strain the wine and put in a container with a lid that will close very well. Allow to rest for 1 month.
- Wash and dry very well glass bottles and fill the bottles with the Orange wine. Close the bottles very well with corks, label them and keep in a cool dark place.
- This wine can last 2 to 3 years in a cool cellar.
