Canadian Brown Bread
- 1 Tbsp. salt
- 2 c. oatmeal
- 2 c. bran
- 1 c. molasses
- 8 c. boiling water
- 2 Tbsp. yeast
- 1/4 c. lukewarm water
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- white flour (almost 5 lb.)
- 3 Tbsp. liquid shortening
- Combine the first 5 ingredients in a large bowl and let cool until lukewarm; stir the mixture.
- Mix the yeast, lukewarm water and sugar and set aside until it rises.
- Combine the 2 mixtures and add white flour.
- When you have added 4 to 5 cups, add liquid shortening.
- Continue to mix until the dough is just a little bit sticky.
- Cover with waxed paper and a towel.
- Let rise and punch down 3 times.
- Put in greased bread pans and let rise until doubled.
- Grease tops with melted butter.
- Bake at 400u0b0 for 3/4 hour.
- Makes 10 loaves.
