Chocolate Peppermint Pie

  1. Mix sugar, flour and salt; add gradually to hot milk.
  2. Cook 10 minutes, stirring often.
  3. Add beaten egg yolks and cook 5 minutes longer.
  4. Blend half of the custard with melted chocolate and vanilla.
  5. Add gelatin to remaining hot custard; stir until dissolved and let cool.
  6. Add sugar slowly to stiffly beaten egg whites and fold into plain custard, adding peppermint flavoring. Place chocolate custard in bottom of baked pie shell.
  7. Let stand until slightly
  8. firm.
  9. Cover with peppermint custard and stand in refrigerator or cool place.
  10. When firm, cover with whipped cream and sprinkle with grated chocolate.
