Holiday Morning French Toast
- 2-3 tart apples
- 1 cup dark brown sugar
- 1/2 cup melted butter
- 3 teaspoons cinnamon
- 3/4 cup Craisins or raisins, craisins are best
- 1 loaf French or Italian bread sliced in 1" slices
- 6 eggs
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 1 tablespoon vanilla
- Peel, core, and slice apples (~?? thick). Combine brown sugar, melted butter, and 1 tsp cinnamon in a 13x9? pan. Add apples (not too many) and Craisins. Toss to coat well. Spread apple mixture evenly over bottom of the pan. Arrange bread slices on top. Mix eggs, milk, vanilla, and remaining 2 tsp cinnamon until well blended. Pour mixture over bread, soaking bread completely. Cover and refrigerate 4-24 hours. Bake, covered with aluminum foil, at 375 degrees for at least 40 minutes. Uncover and bake 5+ minutes. Remove from oven, let stand 5 minutes.
