Apple Butter Cake

  1. Cream shortening and sugar.
  2. Beat in eggs one at a time.
  3. Beat until light and fluffy.
  4. Stir in 1 cup apple butter.
  5. Sift together dry ingredients.
  6. Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with sour milk.
  7. (To make sour milk, measure 1 tablespoon lemon juice into measuring cup; add milk to make 1 cup and stir.)
  8. Turn into 2 greased and floured 9-inch cake pans or one 9 x 13-inch pan.
  9. Bake at 350u0b0 for 30 to 35 minutes.
  10. Cool. Spread bottom layer of cooled cake with 1/4 cup apple butter.
  11. Top with fluffy frosting.
  12. Cover top cake layer.
  13. Frost sides and top. Swirl apple butter onto frosted top to give marbled effect.
