Flavorful Herb Bread
- 3/4 c. warm milk
- 2 Tbsp. melted bacon fat or butter
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 pkg. active dry yeast
- 1/4 c. warm (105~ to 115~) water
- 1 egg
- 1/4 c. chopped chives
- 2 Tbsp. minced parsley
- 1 tsp. crushed oregano
- 3 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
- Heat milk, fat, sugar and salt; cool to lukewarm.
- Sprinkle yeast over warm water in a large mixing bowl; stir until dissolved. Add milk mixture, egg, chives, parsley and oregano.
- Stir in 2 cups flour, beating until smooth.
- Add enough additional flour to make a stiff dough.
- Turn dough onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 10 minutes.
- Place in a greased bowl, turning to grease dough completely.
- Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in bulk, about 1 to 1 1/4 hours.
