Deep Dish Golden Apple Pie

  1. Core and thinly slice apples to equal 7 cups.
  2. Combine sugar, flour, spices and salt.
  3. Stir in apples, raisins and orange juice. Place in 2-inch deep 9-inch baking dish.
  4. Dot with butter.
  5. Roll pastry to 11-inch diameter; adjust over apples.
  6. Tuck in edges and flute, pulling points of fluting over side of dish to secure crust.
  7. Decorate with apple-shaped pastry cutouts if desired.
  8. Cut vents.
  9. Bake at 400u0b0 for about 1 hour or until crust is golden and filling is steaming.
  10. If necessary, cover partway through baking to prevent browning.
  11. Makes 4 to 6 servings.
