Round Steak Supreme
- 1 1/2 lb. round steak (1 inch thick)
- 1/4 c. shortening
- 2 large onions, sliced
- 1/2 c. chili sauce
- 1/2 c. California Ros wine
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
- 1/2 lb. fresh mushrooms, sliced
- 1/2 c. chopped green pepper
- 1/2 c. tomato juice
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/8 tsp. garlic salt
- 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
- Brown steak in 1 tablespoon shortening on both sides.
- Place in a shallow baking pan.
- Melt remaining 3 tablespoons shortening and add mushrooms, onions and green pepper.
- Cook 5 minutes or just until soft but not browned.
- Blend in chili sauce, tomato juice, wine, salt, pepper, garlic salt and Worcestershire sauce.
- Pour sauce over browned meat.
- Bake in hot oven, 425 degrees, for 10 minutes, then reduce heat to 350 degrees.
- Cover and continue cooking about 1 1/2 hours or until meat is tender.
- Makes 6 servings.
