8 Dozen Buns
- 18 cups warm flour
- 2/3 cup lukewarm water
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 2 pkg. yeast
- 2 quarts warm water
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup soft lard
- 1 1/2 Tbsp salt
- 1 egg, beaten
- Dissolve yeast and 1 Tbsp. sugar in 2/3 cup water.
- In 2 quarts water, dissolve sugar, lard and salt.
- Stir in egg, yeast mixture and 5 cups flour.
- Mix well and add enough flour to make a soft dough.
- Knead lightly and place in a greased pan, and let rise until double.
- Punch down and let rise again.
- Shape and place on greased jellyroll pan.
- Let rise until double and bake at 375 degrees for 25 minutes or until golden brown.
- OR... you can use this recipe to make cinnamon rolls.
- You roll out the dough into a rectangle, spread with butter or margarine and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.
- If desired you can add walnuts or pecans.
- Roll the dough up like a jellyroll and cut into 1 to 1 1/2 inch pieces.
- Place into a pan and let rise until double and bake at 325 degrees for 25 minutes.
- OR... you can make donuts by cutting circles and a hole in the middle, letting them rise till double and deep fat frying them.
- Immediately dip in sugar or glaze after they have cooled a short time.
- OR...you can take a piece about the size of a lemon and stretch it out and deep fat fry it and put butter and jelly on it.
- They are better if you eat them right away while they are still hot.
