Cabbage And Rice Casserole
- 1 large cabbage
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- 1 c. raw rice
- 1 can cream of mushroom soup
- 1/2 tsp. pepper
- 1/4 tsp. thyme
- 1 1/2 Tbsp. ground meat
- 1 bell pepper, chopped
- 1 can tomato paste plus water to make 2 c.
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. sugar
- 1 bay leaf, crushed
- bread crumbs
- butter
- Chop cabbage and parboil 10 minutes in salty water.
- Place in colander and drain well.
- Brown ground meat.
- Add onion, celery and bell pepper.
- Cook until done.
- Add soup, tomato paste and water.
- Add remaining ingredients and mix well.
- Grease a large casserole pan using butter.
- Put a layer of cabbage, then a layer of meat mixture.
- Continue until all is used.
- Top with bread crumbs and dot with butter.
- Bake, covered, at 325u0b0 for 1 hour. Uncover and bake 15 minutes longer.
