Macaroni Casserole Italiano
- 1/2 lb. ground beef
- 1/2 lb. Italian sausage, casing removed
- 1/2 c. chopped onion
- 2 c. water
- 2/3 c. (6 oz. can) tomato paste
- 1 (1.42 oz.) envelope spaghetti sauce mix
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 2 c. (8 oz.) Skinner elbow macaroni (uncooked)
- grated Parmesan cheese
- In large skillet, crumble meat; cook until almost done. Drain.
- Add onion; cook until onion is tender.
- Add water, tomato paste, sauce mix and salt; stir until blended.
- Heat to boiling; reduce heat.
- Cover; simmer 20 to 25 minutes.
- Cook pasta according to package directions; drain.
- Stir pasta into sauce; spoon into 2-quart casserole.
- Sprinkle generously with Parmesan cheese; broil 5 to 10 minutes until cheese is lightly browned. Makes 6 servings (1 cup each).
