Meemaw’S Holiday Dressing
- 1 pound Hot Italian sausage
- 1.5 bags Pepperidge Farms herbed stuffing mix
- 2 quarts Low sodium chicken broth
- 1.5 ounces Rubbed Sage
- 1 Onion, large
- 1 stick Butter
- 1 egg, large
- In a saute pan melt butter over medium heat.
- Saute onions until clear.
- Crumble sausage into onions and brown.
- Add remaining butter and melt into the sausage.
- Remove pan and let cool enough to handle it.
- Add sausage and onions to to stuffing mix.
- Add enough chicken broth to just make the stuffing wet.
- Add salt & pepper.
- With clean hands start mixing it all together.
- With clean hands start mixing it all together. Slowly add in the rubbed sage a little at a time. Keep adding sage until you can easily smell the sage when you sniff the mixture. Then stop adding sage.
- Add egg, and continue mixing into the stuffing.
- Put entire mixture into a glass dish and bake until stuffing gets a bit of a crust (about 1 hour).
