Bernaie'S Nanaimo Bars

  1. BASE:
  2. 1. In a double boiler, melt butter and chocolate (over hot water, but never touching the hot water).
  3. 2. Once melted, add sugar, vanilla and egg; mix well.
  4. 3. Add graham wafer crumbs, coconut & walnuts; mix well.
  5. 4. Press into 9" square pan. Chill.
  6. FILLING:
  7. 1. Combine custard powder and milk. Add butter.
  8. 2. Beat in icing sugar until smooth.
  9. 3. Spread over the chilled base, & chill for 15 more minutes.
  10. GLAZE:
  11. 1. In a double boiler, melt the chocolate & butter over hot water.
  12. 2. Spread over the already chilled base and custard layer. Chill. Cut into bars.
  13. Freezes and thaws well.
