Candied Orange Scones
- 1 3/4 cup all-purpose Flour
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 5 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup candied oranges (home made or store bought)
- 1/4 cup whole milk
- 1/4 cup sour cream or yogurt
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon reserved orange syrup or milk
- 1. Preheat oven to 400 Degrees
- 2. Sift first 4 ingredients together
- 3. Cut the butter into the dried mix with a pastry blender or rub with hands until it has the consistency of oatmeal
- 4. Add milk and sour cream
- Mix lightly until it's firm enough to form a solid dough. Try not to over mix.
- 5. Place dough on floured cutting board and do not mix, but form it into a round shape 1/2 inch thick. It's okay if it has lumps
- 6. Place on a non stick cookie sheet or wax paper
- 7. Cut into 8 wedges, no need to separate
- 8. Mix egg and syrup and brush on top of dough
- Bake for about 10-15 minutes until light brown
- Let cool in pan, then break apart to eat
