Chivada - Indian Snack
- 13 oz box of Chex or Rice Krispies
- 1/2 cup canola oil
- 12 oz peanuts
- 8 oz Cashews
- 1/2 c raisins, cranberries, etc.
- 1/2 cup chopped coconut
- 1 t salt
- 1/2 t mustard seeds
- 1/2 t or more turmeric
- 1/4 t asafoieteda
- 1 t or more cumin
- 1 t allspice
- 1 t or per taste cayenne
- garlic powder to taste
- 1 1/2 t sugar
- Heat the oil in a 6 qt pot. Add mustard seeds. When mustard seeds start to pop, add turmeric, garlic powder and asafoieteda. Add the coconut now and be careful not to over brown it.
- Add peanuts, cashews, raisins and rest of spices - stir well.
- When everything is coated, add the cereal and toss until spices are uniformly distributed.
