Grilled Tuna In The Style Of Thai Street Food

  1. Cilantro Paste
  2. In a food processor, combine pepper, cilantro and garlic. Pulse seeveral times to break down. Add tamari & process to make a paste. If paste is too thick, add water to make it spreadable.
  3. Tuna
  4. Place the tuna steaks in a shallow baking dish. Coat evenly with cilantro paste. Cover a refrigerate for 1 hour.
  5. Make the Sweet Hot Garlic Sauce
  6. In a small, heavy saucepan, combine sugar, water & vinegar. Add garlic & salt. Bring to a full boil, slowly over medium heat, stirring occasionally to dissolve suger. Reduce heat & simmer for about 20 minutes, until liquid is thick & syrupy. Remove from heat and stir in chili sauce.
  7. Store at room temperature for up to 2 days.
  8. Preheat grill. Remove tuna from marinade & drizzle each side with oil. Grill tuna for ~ 4 minutes each side for medium, less for medium rare.
  9. Serve with Sweet Hot Garlic Sauce
