Grilled Tuna In The Style Of Thai Street Food
- Cilantro Paste
- 2 tsps frreshly cracked black pepper
- 1/4 C coarsely chopped cilantro
- 1/4 C chopped garlic
- 3 Tbsp tamari
- Tuna
- 4 1" thick tuna steaks
- Sweet Hot Garlic Sauce
- 1 C sugar
- 1/2 C water
- 1/2 C white vinegar
- 2 Tbsps minced garlic
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 Tbsp Asian Chili-garlic sauce
- Cilantro Paste
- In a food processor, combine pepper, cilantro and garlic. Pulse seeveral times to break down. Add tamari & process to make a paste. If paste is too thick, add water to make it spreadable.
- Tuna
- Place the tuna steaks in a shallow baking dish. Coat evenly with cilantro paste. Cover a refrigerate for 1 hour.
- Make the Sweet Hot Garlic Sauce
- In a small, heavy saucepan, combine sugar, water & vinegar. Add garlic & salt. Bring to a full boil, slowly over medium heat, stirring occasionally to dissolve suger. Reduce heat & simmer for about 20 minutes, until liquid is thick & syrupy. Remove from heat and stir in chili sauce.
- Store at room temperature for up to 2 days.
- Preheat grill. Remove tuna from marinade & drizzle each side with oil. Grill tuna for ~ 4 minutes each side for medium, less for medium rare.
- Serve with Sweet Hot Garlic Sauce
