Oatmeal Ribbon Bread
- 1 1/2 cups sifted flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon soda
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 cup oatmeal
- 1 egg, beaten
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- Water
- Juice of 1 orange
- 1 cup raisins
- 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- 2. Sift together flour, baking powder, soda, sugar, salt and cinnamon.
- 3. Stir in oatmeal, egg and shortening.
- 4. Add enough water to the orange juice to make one cup of liquid and add to the flour mixture, blending well.
- 5. Turn half of the batter into a greased 8 X 4 inch loaf pan.
- 6. Sprinkle the raisins over the batter and cover with the remaining batter.
- 7. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until a toothpick put in the center comes out clean. You may need to cover the loaf with foil if the top is getting too dark so keep a watch on it. Cool.
