Jennifer'S Best Toffee

  1. In a large heavy bottomed saucepan, combine the butter, sugar and salt.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring until butter is melted. Allow to come to a boil and cook until the mixture becomes a dark amber color and the temp is 285 degrees.
  3. While the toffee is cooking cover a large baking sheet with foil or parchment.
  4. A soon as the toffee reaches the proper temp, pour it out onto the baking sheet.
  5. Sprinkle Choc Chips over the top and let set for a minute.
  6. Spread the chocolate into a thin layer once it has melted.
  7. Sprinkle the nuts over the chocolate if preferred.
  8. Place the toffee in the refrigerator to set.
  9. Break into small pieces and store in air tight container.
