Homemade French Bread
- 4 cups all purpose flour
- 2 cups water
- 1 packet yeast
- 1 T sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- (french bread loaf pan)
- 1. In a medium mixing bowl, place flour, sugar, and salt. Mix together.
- 2. Take one cup of water and heat in microwave for 30-45 seconds (you want it hot, but not boiling). Add yeast to water, stir and let sit for 5 minutes.
- 3. Add yeast & water mixture to your flour and be ready with another cup of water.
- 4. Stir in second cup of water gradually because you may not need all of it. You want the flour mixture to be wet, but not a gooey mess! Be careful to not over mix.
- 5. Put a piece of Saran wrap over it and let sit for about an hour to let the dough rise.
- 6. While you are waiting for your dough to rise, spray your bread loaf pan with a non-stick spray. Set aside.
- 7. Once dough has risen, divide the mixture between the two loaf pans, then let the dough rise for another 30 minutes.
- 8. Preheat oven to 385 F
- 9. Put dough into preheated oven for about 30 minutes (check at about 20 minutes).
- 10. Take bread out and immediately slide the loaves onto a cooling rack. Slice and serve with butter.
- **If freezing to have later, make sure bread is completely cool, then wrap in tin foil and keep in the freezer. When ready to eat your bread, let defrost and then reheat in the oven at 350 F for about 20 minutes.
