Mary'S Berry Smoothie
- 1 quart plain yogurt or kefir (lowfat or nonfat)
- 4 cups frozen fruit -- choose any combination of the following: blueberries, strawberries, red raspberries, peaches, mango, pineapple
- 1/4 cup whole flax seeds
- 3 tablespoons wheat germ
- 1/4-1/2 cup turbinado sugar (or plain sugar, or 1/2 cup agave - I start with less sugar then add more if needed)
- optional ingredients
- juice of a lemon; 1/4 cup almond butter; handful of fresh fruit; 1/2 cup apple juice or other juice of your choice; can use milk in place of yogurt
- TO MAKE SMOOTHIE
- Place all ingredients in food processor.Blend for a few minutes. Scrape down sides. Blend for 2 more minutes. Taste for sweetness, adding sugar as needed. If too thick let it sit for a few minutes then stir. If too thin put in freezer for 30 min. to harden. Pour into individual glasses and top with whipped cream. Alternatively, makes a great granita: pour into a 9x13 casserole, freeze for an hour then stir every hour until frozen(once it starts to harden, use a fork and scrape along the top.)
