Date, Kumquat, And Ginger Chutney
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 3 tablespoons chopped shallot
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 2 tablespoons chopped crystallized ginger
- 1 tablespoon white wine vinegar
- 1 teaspoon finely grated orange peel
- 1/8 teaspoon dried crushed red pepper
- Large pinch of ground cloves
- Large pinch of salt
- 16 dates, pitted, halved lengthwise, then halved crosswise
- 10 kumquats, sliced, seeded
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
- Combine first 9 ingredients in medium saucepan. Bring to boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer 3 minutes. Add dates and kumquats; simmer 1 minute longer (chutney thickens when chilled). Season with salt and pepper; stir in cilantro. Chill uncovered until cold. DO AHEAD:
