Family Fish Fry
- 1 lb. Fresh fish, haddock, sole or flounder preferred, rinsed and cut into strips (slightly wider than hot dog roll size)
- 1/2 pound matzo meal or cracker crumbs
- 3 eggs, beaten
- (1-2 oz. milk in the egg mixture is optional)
- Salt, pepper, thyme to taste
- Oil for frying
- Hot dog buns (optional)
- cocktail or tarter sauce (optional)
- Heat oil in fryer or deep frying pan
- mix spices into matzo meal or cracker crums in pie pan or other wide, shallow pan
- pour egg mixture into another pie pan or other wide, shallow pan
- Using different hands for egg mixture and matzo meal, soak fish in egg mixture
- dredge in matzo meal, turning and pressing matzo meal onto fish, and set aside
- repeat with each fish strip individually
- fry 3-5 minutes; fish is done when it floats
